Nik West at ColtraneJazzFest.com

Bassist, singer, and songwriter Nik West isn’t just a musician; she’s an embodiment of individuality. The performer with the explosive stage presence is set to appear at the John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues, Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024 in Oak Hollow Park, High Point, NC.

Nik West

A FORCE OF NATURE

Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics described her as the female Lenny Kravitz. Stewart became familiar with her work as West was completing her debut album Just In the Nik of Time. He invited her to join him on some of his projects. She has also done work with Quincy Jones Productions, Prince, Macy Gray, John Mayer, Glee, and American Idol.

West, a funk-fueled dynamo, is a force of nature, blending genres and breaking boundaries. West’s moves wow, and shock crowds everywhere she performs.  She hails from Phoenix, AR where, at age 13, her father taught her to play the rhythm guitar. He also taught her and her siblings to sing. West has sisters who play keyboard, violin, guitar and drums. Together with her older brother, they first performed as a local act. West switched to the bass while in high school.

ALL ABOUT THE BASS

Named “the bass icon of this generation” by Rolling Stone magazine, and “The Queen of the Bassists” by Rolling Stone France, West has received accolades from around the globe, but garners a huge following in Europe. Not just a superb bass player – her vocals attract attention also. From sultry and smooth to high-energy and electrifying, her voice tells stories that resonate with an audience.

Her second album, Moody features the legendary bassist, Larry Graham, jazz/rock drummer Cindy Blackman-Santana, with guidance Narada Michael Walden, the production genius who is responsible for some of the biggest hits by Whitney Houston, Santana, and Sting. “Catch Me If You Can,” a cut from the album was featured on Netflix’s “Virgin River” and Apple TV’s original, “Amber Brown”. West’s funky bass lines can also be heard in ESPN sports programs all over the world.
